Song

Bones, animals, and the cycling of nature are my memento mori: reminders of our mortality and the gift that life is.

I’m drawn particularly to animals because of their honest way of being in the moment, always present in their skin. Through them, I consider our human interconnectedness, including our conflicts, strength and fragility.

I love using clay for its association with common ground, and that it puts me in touch with the innocent seven year old I was when I slicked fresh springtime mud all over my body just to feel it on my skin. I like the idea of the mud-me as my seminal sculpture, still informing my work today.
